This Generation 3 wheel bearing set is designed for on-vehicle replacement and minimises the amount of component removal required. It works with 18 ton and 22 ton hydraulic cylinders and is intended for vehicles using the third-generation style bearing, where the unit is bolted directly to the hub with three or four bolts.
On certain applications such as VAG models, the wheel flange can be removed first while the driveshaft remains in place, followed by extraction of the bearing itself. This allows the bearing to be replaced with very little strip down of the hub assembly. As the process avoids splitting ball joints, wheel alignment may not be necessary once the job is complete. In most cases there is no need to remove ABS sensors, which are easily damaged, adding further time and cost savings. The tool enables both removal and installation using hydraulic force, providing controlled and damage-free work across a wide range of vehicles.
By allowing the bearing to be replaced directly on the vehicle, this system avoids the struggle with seized components and reduces the risk of damage from excessive dismantling. It saves significant time in the workshop by eliminating the need for a press and avoiding unnecessary removal of suspension and steering parts.
A universal bridge plate (part no. 91034505) is required and is shared across all wheel bearing kits, with different legs bolted to it as needed. Only one bridge plate is necessary to cover all applications.
